(More customer reviews)When we brought our 2 year old rescue mixed breed into the house I wasn't worried about her darting at anyone because she was terrified of men and cautious about women. Having an attached garage at that time meant that getting in the car wasn't an issue either.
But just in case, I ordered this collar for her and one for out Lab-mix who is one of those "I'm so good that I'm voice controlled except when I see red and don't hear anything!" dogs.
When she became acclimated to people, she also became curious about what was going on in neighboring yards. Since we no longer lived in an attached garage situation, I found that it was necessary to hold her collar while opening the car door to let them in. I've had to use the collar seriously twice. Once when I had to stop the car to take the sick Lab on an emergency walk. She darted out thinking she was going also. Grabbed her by the collar - those main streets make my blood run cold - and back she went. It's sometimes easier to grab than to give a command.
The other time was actually at the park for a walk. She jumped out after I dropped her regular leash in the parking lot. Voice command, grab the collar-leash and SIT-Stay!
She's 4 years old now and doesn't bolt any more but we still go through the routine most days when it's time for an errand.
As for the Lab mix, his collar is still in its original package. Having it is reassuring but he really doesn't need it.
This collar is a great idea and for those who have a dog who rushes visitors or charges the door, it is a must. It does exactly what it says - it gives you quick control without having a collar pull off in your hand.
